چکیده
Introduction Pathologic grooming disorders can lead to clinically significant distress and functional impairment. Various psychopharmacological nonpharmacological treatments have been used ameliorate the symptoms of these disorders. N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) is a newer modality in treatment has shown promise obsessive-compulsive related Objectives To determine whether NAC useful body-focused repetitive behavior Methods A literature review was carried out PubMed using descriptors: “body-focused behaviour disorders” “grooming AND “N-Acetylcysteine”. Six results were obtained when time limit 5 years. We selected two them for their relevance PICO question. Subsequently, search repeated same descriptors Cochrane Library, Epistemokinos Tripdatabase, which no additional found. Results Overall, thirty-three articles included systematic reviews that we studied, consisted 23 case reports, one series, seven randomized controlled trials. Dosing oral ranged from 450 3,000 mg per day, periods lasted 1 8 months. Side effects uncommon, mild, usually gastrointestinal nature, with severe aggression reported child. Two trials showed improvement trichotillomania excoriation disorder adults. The other performed pediatric population, showing statistical difference. six reports studying patients suffering (one adults infants) included. Only adding Massachusetts General Hospital, Hairpulling Scale (MGH-HPS). Four differences all them. Three trial onicotylomania difference wasn’t consistent after months treatment. Conclusions There are multiple an several clinical supporting both safety efficacy Based on positive preliminary absence serious adverse effects, carrying therapeutical plausible option management this pathology, especially those therapeutic options not effective. Further studies needed develop algorithm elucidate between children disorder. Disclosure Interest None Declared

Evaluation of Oxidative Stress in Combination Therapy with D-penicillamine and N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) in Lead Poisoning in Opium Addicts
Background: N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a putative antioxidant and has gained attention as a promising agent for chelating heavy metals including lead. Considering the animal studies results, we hypothesized that adding NAC to the treatment regimen may improve the success of treatment with lead chelators. Methods: A total of 46 patients who were lead-poisoned opioid addicts were divided into two ...
متن کاملAntioxidant and free radical scavenging properties of N-acetylcysteine amide (NACA) and comparison with N-acetylcysteine (NAC).
The antioxidant potential of N-acetylcysteine amide (NACA), also known as AD4, was assessed by employing different in vitro assays. These included reducing power, free radical scavenging capacities, peroxidation inhibiting activity through linoleic acid emulsion system and metal chelating capacity, as compared to NAC and three widely used antioxidants, alpha-tocopherol, ascorbic acid and butyla...
متن کاملN-acetylcysteine (NAC) in neurological disorders: mechanisms of action and therapeutic opportunities
BACKGROUND There is an expanding field of research investigating the benefits of medicines with multiple mechanisms of action across neurological disorders. N-acetylcysteine (NAC), widely known as an antidote to acetaminophen overdose, is now emerging as treatment of vascular and nonvascular neurological disorders. NAC as a precursor to the antioxidant glutathione modulates glutamatergic, neuro...

This article describes a language advisory programme established at one New Zealand university to support students (mostly New Zealand residents from Asian language backgrounds) experiencing difficulties with the English language. The programme was offered through the university self-access centre and consisted of students meeting several times over a period of three months with a personal lang...
متن کاملChemical Changes in Nonthermal Plasma-Treated N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) Solution and Their Contribution to Bacterial Inactivation
In continuation of our previous reports on the broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity of atmospheric non-thermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma treated N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) solution against planktonic and biofilm forms of different multidrug resistant microorganisms, we present here the chemical changes that mediate inactivation of Escherichia coli. In this study, the mechanism and ...
